23rd April 2019After struggling to find a permanent source of income Paul came to SCE to learn new skills and increase his chances of finding the right job for him. Here is Paul’s story:
“I first heard of the support provided by Stirling Community Enterprise (SCE) a good few years back, but I never got around to getting in touch because I always managed to find temporary work. More recently I heard that SCE were starting an ALBA Landscaping course in Cultenhove, at Hillview Community Centre. Hillview was a handy option for me because it was close to my mum who I was looking after at the time.
I never really struggled getting in to short term jobs because I had a pretty good agency that was getting me work here and there, however I really wanted to find a company where I could get a full-time contract. Once I started the course at Cultenhove the trainer had a look at my CV and helped me with some important tweaks, which I think had a real impact on me getting in with Plean pre-cast where I am working now.
I am a quick learner with experience in several different sectors but my main issue was getting that one solid employer who would give me an opportunity.
SCE has a cracking reputation within the community, and everybody knows they’re where to go for work experience, certificates and CSCS training. Although I only managed to start on one course, they kept me on record and when the right opportunity came, I was in, speaking to them about it. We got my CV up to date and sent it through to Plean Pre-cast and I started work the following Monday!
I am absolutely over the moon for getting this opportunity as a general operative and I’m going to make the most of it! This is an excellent chance for me to get some real consistency in my life and I can start making solid plans for the future, rather than worrying “How many weeks will I get?” or “How many hours will I get?”
We all wish Paul the best in his new career with Plean Pre-cast and look forward to following his progress. If you think that we could help you take your next step in training or employment, then please get in touch by Phone on: 01786 472885 or Email: contact@stirlingcommunityenterprise.co.uk
