  • Sector Based Work Academy - Stage 4

    Course Description:

    We will be running a sector based work academy for people who are looking to gain a career in construction. The course is dependant on the person having an active ILA account and any referrals have to be done through the job centre.

    This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is looking to kick start their career and get some certified training. there will be manual handling training, Abrasive wheels training, competence using the cut-off saw and more practical training, as well as employability support throughout.

    The course will also focus on the health and safety aspects of the industry, so we will provide training and the opportunity for each person to learn, practice and prepare for their CSCS test, where transport to and from the test centre will be provided.

    There will be a 4 week work placement with Robertson's construction at the end of the course with a guaranteed interview for the right candidates.

  • ALBA ALBA Landscaping - Stage 2 equivalent

    Course Description:

    ALBA landscaping is an introduction level course that will cover both hard and soft landscaping.

    Trainees will be trained in safe use of all ground care equipment such as rotary mowers, brush cutters and hedge cutters etc, and will also learn to lay different types of modular surfaces including mono-blocks and slab laying.

    This training course also touches on a lot of health and safety requirements like risk assessing and using hazardous substances in line with COSHH regulations

    Trainees will be encouraged to apply for an individual learning account which can be used to fund their CSCS training, test, transport and re-sit if needed.

    Course Description:

    This course is an introduction to construction and hard landscaping. Trainees will be involved in classroom based and practical based training.

    the training will consist of introduction to scaffolding, abrasive wheels training using the cut off saw, introduction to modular surfaces which consists of block paving and slab-laying, health and safety training, helping to write and understand risk assessments and manual handling training.

    There will also be opportunities for candidates to apply for their ILA account that will enable them to sit all tests require to gain the CSCS labourers card.

  • ALBA Painting and Decorating - stage 2 equivalant

    Course Description:

    This course is an introduction to painting and decorating.  Participants will learn how to prepare surfaces, identify different types of paints and learn the different ways to apply them.  Participants will have the chance to take what they have learned and put their skills to the test by taking part in a live project.

    In addition learners will receive manual handling training and will be encouraged to apply for their ILA account that will enable them to sit all tests require to gain the CSCS labourers card.

  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) - Stage 4 equivalent

    Course Description:

    The training for the CSCS Labourer Card is completed over 3 days.

    Day 1: Health and Safety in the Construction Environment training and completion of an online assessment.

    Day 2: CSCS training delivered and practice for the test.

    Day 3: CSCS assessment.

    This course is fully funded by an ILA account which can be accessed via the ‘My World of Work’ web site.

  • ALBA Pallet Furniture - Stage 1/2 equivalent

    Course Description:

    This drop in opportunity allows participants to develop social and practical skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.
    You will be involved in the planning, designing and production of outside garden furniture using used pallets. It is an excellent first step towards a more structured programme within the centre.
    Tea, coffee and lunch (soup and sandwiches) are provided at no cost to attendees.
